How to Have a Productive Summer Break: 4 Ideas for Students
Make this summer worthwhile without giving up the fun.
August 3, 2023 · By Arushi Dubey
During the summer break it's important to relax and enjoy activities with those you love. If you're a student, whether in Dubai or anywhere else in the world, the holidays can be especially refreshing after a long series of exams, so make the most of them and really allow yourself to have fun. Alongside an enjoyable break, however, you can be productive as well. That doesn't mean studying for hours on end, but rather much smaller and simpler things, such as reading. Here are a few things you can do this summer to make it as productive as possible.
Play a Sport
Applying to a sports academy, or simply playing a game with your friends, is not only great fun but also gets some exercise done. Trying a new sport, or one that you previously found hard, can be a challenge you set for yourself this summer break. You might even find that the new sport really interests you.
Apply for Internships
If you're a high school student, taking part in a summer internship can be incredibly productive and genuinely useful. Internships allow you to gain valuable work experience and further develop the skills you already have. By choosing an internship that relates to the field you're hoping to go into, you prepare yourself for the future. Internships are also a great addition to your CV, and a short summer placement, which you can easily find on a platform such as LinkedIn, can really help strengthen it.
Read a Book
Reading may seem like a tedious task to some people, but once you find the right book it can be incredibly enjoyable, and it may even begin to feel like a leisure activity. Reading keeps the brain active: it expands your vocabulary, introduces you to different experiences and cultures, and increases your ability to retain knowledge.
Prepare for the New School Year
In the last two weeks of summer, going over what you'll be learning in the upcoming academic year can help you prepare and build a basic understanding of what you need to know. This ensures there are no surprises, as you'll be well informed from the very first lesson. If any topic seems unfamiliar to you, you can always read over it before the year starts, or go through it with an online tutor from wherever you're spending the holidays.
The Bottom Line
A productive summer doesn't mean giving up your holiday. Play a sport, explore an internship, pick up a good book, and glance ahead at next year's course. You'll return to school refreshed, confident and a step ahead of the term.
